Exercise Physiology for Osteoporosis

Strengthen your bones and reduce fracture risk with exercise physiology in Geelong. Evidence-based programs for osteoporosis and osteopenia from Accredited Exercise Physiologists.

Strong bones aren’t luck. They’re built. It’s never too late to start!

Osteoporosis and osteopenia are far more common than most people realise, particularly in older women and men over 65. The good news is that exercise is one of the most powerful interventions available for improving bone density, reducing fracture risk, and building the strength and balance that protect you from falls. At Core Health Group, we design programs tailored specifically for bone health, using the types of exercise that actually drive the adaptations you need.

How exercise physiology helps with osteoporosis

Bone is a living tissue that responds to load. When you apply stress to bone through resistance training and weight-bearing exercise, it stimulates bone-forming cells and increases density over time. Not all exercise has this effect. Swimming and cycling, while excellent for cardiovascular health, don’t provide the mechanical stimulus that bones need. Our programs focus on the specific types of loading that research shows makes a real difference.

Beyond bone density, we also address muscle strength, balance, and fall prevention, because avoiding fractures is about the whole picture, not just the bone scan.

What does my program look like?

  • A baseline assessment including fall risk screening and functional strength testing

  • Progressive resistance training targeting major muscle groups and the spine and hip

  • Impact and weight-bearing exercise appropriate for your bone density and joint health

Safe exercise technique education covering what to avoid with low bone density

  • Balance and coordination training to reduce fall risk

  • A program that works at our gym, at home, or both

A note on funding

Who is this for?

Women and men in Geelong who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia, or who are at risk due to age, family history, medications such as long-term corticosteroids, or early menopause. It’s also for people who want to be proactive about their bone health before a problem arises. You don’t need to be strong or experienced in the gym. We start exactly where you are.

Osteoporosis is commonly managed under Medicare CDM plans, providing up to 5 rebated sessions per year. DVA Gold and White Card holders are covered. NDIS funding may be available where the condition significantly affects daily function. Many private health funds cover exercise physiology under extras, so it's worth checking with your provider.
