Exercise Physiology for Healthy Ageing

Stay strong, independent and active as you age with exercise physiology in Geelong. Programs for older adults designed by Accredited Exercise Physiologists. Medicare and DVA funding available.

Ageing well isn’t about slowing down. It’s about staying strong enough to keep doing what you love.

The physical changes that come with ageing, including loss of muscle mass, reduced bone density, declining balance, and slower recovery, are real. But they’re also highly modifiable. The research is clear: regular, well-designed exercise is the single most effective intervention for maintaining independence, physical function, and quality of life as you get older. At Core Health Group, we work with older adults across Geelong to build exactly that.

How exercise physiology helps with healthy ageing

From our 40s onwards, we lose muscle mass at roughly 1% per year, a process called sarcopenia. This affects strength, balance, metabolic health, and the ability to perform daily activities. Resistance training is the most effective way to slow and even reverse this process. Combined with aerobic fitness work, balance training, and functional movement, a well-rounded program can dramatically change the trajectory of ageing.

We see clients from their 50s through to their 80s and beyond. Our older clients train in the same gym as our younger ones, with different programs but the same commitment to doing the work. There’s nothing specialised or separate about it. It’s just good training in a good environment.

What does my program look like?

  • A comprehensive functional assessment covering strength, balance, mobility, and fitness

  • Progressive resistance training to build and maintain muscle mass

Aerobic fitness training matched to your current level and health status

  • Balance and coordination work to reduce fall risk

  • Functional movement work covering the activities you actually need for daily life

  • A program that can be done at our gym, at home, or both

A note on funding

Who is this for?

Active older adults who want to stay that way. People who’ve noticed their strength or balance declining and want to do something about it. Those recovering from illness, surgery, or a period of inactivity. People managing multiple chronic conditions who need a clinician rather than just a trainer. Anyone in Geelong over 60 who wants expert support in maintaining their health and independence.

Medicare CDM plans are widely available for older adults managing chronic conditions, which covers many of the people we see for healthy ageing programs. DVA Gold and White Card holders have full coverage for exercise physiology. NDIS may be relevant for older participants with functional impairments. Many private health extras also cover exercise physiology. We’re happy to help you navigate your options when you get in touch.
