Exercise Physiology for Neurological Conditions

Specialised exercise physiology for Parkinson’s, MS, stroke and other neurological conditions in Geelong. NDIS registered provider. Expert clinical team and inclusive gym environment.

Neurological conditions change the way you move. Exercise can help you move better.

Whether you’re managing Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke recovery, cerebral palsy, or another neurological condition, exercise physiology has an important role to play.

At Core Health Group, we have genuine experience working with people across the neurological spectrum, in a real gym environment, alongside other members, with programs designed around your specific needs and goals.

How exercise physiology helps with neurological populations

Exercise influences the nervous system as well as the musculoskeletal system. For conditions like Parkinson’s disease, high-intensity aerobic exercise has been shown to slow symptom progression and improve motor function. For stroke survivors, task-specific and strength training improves neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to rewire and recover. For MS, exercise manages fatigue, improves strength and balance, and reduces the risk of secondary conditions.

The key with neurological conditions is specificity and progression. We design programs that target the specific impairments you’re dealing with and adjust as your needs change over time. We don’t use cookie-cutter programs and we don’t treat everyone with the same diagnosis the same way.

What does my program look like?

  • A thorough initial assessment covering your diagnosis, current function, and goals

  • Strength training to address muscle weakness and improve movement control

Aerobic conditioning adapted to your current capacity and fatigue profile

  • Balance, coordination, and gait training where relevant

  • Condition-specific exercise prescription based on the evidence for your diagnosis

  • A welcoming gym environment where you train alongside other members
