Exercise Physiology for Heart Health
Evidence-based cardiac rehabilitation and heart health programs delivered by Accredited Exercise
Physiologists in Geelong. Medicare, DVA and NDIS funding available.
Looking after your heart starts with the right kind of exercise.
Cardiovascular disease covers a broad spectrum, from high blood pressure and high
cholesterol through to heart attack recovery, heart failure, and peripheral artery disease.
Whatever your situation, exercise physiology plays a central role in both treatment and long-
term management. At Core Health Group, we work with you to build a program that’s safe,
effective, and built around what your heart actually needs.
How exercise physiology helps with cardiovascular disease
Exercise is medicine for the heart. It strengthens the cardiac muscle, improves the efficiency of the cardiovascular system, reduces blood pressure, improves cholesterol profiles, and lowers the risk of future cardiac events. For people who’ve had a heart attack or cardiac procedure, structured exercise is a cornerstone of rehabilitation.
Our exercise physiologists understand how to prescribe exercise at the right intensity for people with cardiovascular conditions. We push you enough to improve, in a way that’s monitored and safe. We stay in contact with your medical team and adjust your program as your health changes.
What your program may involve
• A thorough initial assessment including your cardiac history and current medications
• Aerobic conditioning at an appropriate intensity, using heart rate and perceived exertion as guides
• Resistance training to improve overall strength and metabolic health
• Education on lifestyle factors that affect heart health
• A program you can follow independently between supervised sessions
• Regular reviews and communication with your GP or cardiologist if needed
Who this is for
People in Geelong managing conditions like coronary artery disease, hypertension, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, or high cholesterol. This is also for people who’ve had a heart attack, bypass surgery, or stenting and are ready to take the next step in their recovery. You might be newly diagnosed, or you might have been managing a cardiac condition for years and want a more structured approach.
A note on funding
Medicare CDM plans cover up to 5 subsidised exercise physiology sessions per year for eligible clients with cardiovascular disease. DVA Gold and White Card holders are covered. NDIS funding may apply for participants with cardiovascular conditions affecting their daily function. Your GP can refer you, or you’re welcome to self-refer and we’ll help you work out what you’re entitled to.
